On April 10, 2025, the award ceremony of the "9th International Energy Storage Innovation Competition", hosted by the International Energy Storage Technology and Industry Alliance and co-organized by the Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance, was grandly held at the Beijing Capital International Convention and Exhibition Center. Professor Jia Xie from our institute was selected as the "Energy Storage Person of the Year 2025" in recognition of his significant contributions to the fields of energy storage technology innovation and application promotion in the past year. Relying on an expert panel composed of dozens of top experts from various industries in the energy storage field, the competition has established a complete evaluation system for energy storage technologies and projects, making it an authoritative event in the energy storage field.
Introduction to Professor Jia Xie: Professor and PhD supervisor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, selected for the National High-level Talent Program (Youth Project), Chief Scientist of the Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Youth 973 Project, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Deputy Director of the Research Center for Advanced Electrical Engineering Materials and Devices, and Vice Chairman of the Energy Storage Materials and Device Technology Sub-committee of IEEE PES in China. He obtained his bachelor's degree from Peking University in 2002 and his doctorate degree from Stanford University in 2008. He once served as a senior researcher at Dow Chemical in the United States and the President of Hefei Guoxuan High-Tech Research Institute. He mainly engages in research on electrochemical energy storage and has presided over several national projects, including key R&D programs in the field of energy storage batteries, the Youth 973 Project, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and key projects of the joint funds of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. As the second completer, he won the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and as the first completer, he won the First Prize of Xinjiang Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of the Chinese Electrotechnical Society, and the First Youth Science and Technology Award. He has published more than 200 SCI papers as the first/corresponding author and has been authorized more than 100 patents. He serves as an editorial board member of "Energy Storage Science and Technology" and an academic editor of "Interdisciplinary Materials".

Professor Jia Xie is a core backbone of the team led by Academician Shijie Cheng of our institute and in the field of power energy storage at the National Key Laboratory. He has long been engaged in basic research and industrial application work related to electrochemical energy storage. His main innovative research achievements include: constructing a new system of high-safety, long-life, and low-cost lithium iron phosphate battery cells, developing a two-dimensional orthogonal electrolyte with affinity or repulsion to lithium, proposing the technologies of low tortuosity thick cathodes and lithium supplementation throughout the entire life cycle. He has achieved significant breakthroughs in both the specific energy and cycle life of lithium iron phosphate battery cells simultaneously, reducing the equivalent cost per kilowatt-hour to less than ¥0.1/kWh, and greatly improving the intrinsic safety of the batteries, laying a solid foundation for the large-scale application of lithium battery energy storage.
